Do Something...NOT!
The Republican convention has recently concluded and the Democrats are having their party. We shall be treated to speech after speech by politicians and their sycophants about their solutions to all our problems. They will do this to fix the economy and do that to save Medicare/Social Security. They will do this to reform education and do that to reduce the debt. Promises made every election cycle by both parties year after year, decade after decade. Yet every year debt goes up, test scores go down, entitlements go deeper into the red and our real personal economic situation under the constant pressure of taxes, regulation and inflation constantly deteriorates.
Why? Because, as Ronald Reagan correctly pointed out, government is not the solution, it is the problem. Every problem we face is either caused by government or made worse by government. Another program, another law, another regulation, another tax, another reform are going to do nothing to improve our situation, economically, culturally or in the world. I don’t want help from politicians, I don’t want them to try to solve problems, I don’t want them to try to create jobs. Government does not create, it destroys. It does not solve problems, it makes them worse. Its help comes at the expense of our wealth and liberty.
The greatness of America has been a result of liberty, not government. Prosperity and virtue are not a result of laws, programs, regulation or taxes. It is a result of free individuals being able to make choices about their own lives, being able to develop, design and pursue their own dreams and reap the rewards of their fulfillment, constrained only by the limits of their imagination and capacity for hard work. That is what made America great. The solution to our problems is found in freedom, the capacity of three hundred million minds, unencumbered by limitations imposed by social and economic despots in government, to create, innovate and serve. There are only two promises a politician can make this year that will reverse our negative trend. First, they will promise to dismantle programs, entitlements, agencies and regulations that are not directly related to the only legitimate function of government, the protection of personal liberty. The second is that they will defend our liberties and jealously guard our freedom. Any politician who promises otherwise is perpetuating an immoral system of theft, plunder and oppression.
